AFTER HOURS RECYCLING – LET’S CLEAN IT UP

Since the Recycling Center is not able to stay open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we have arranged for an “After Hours Drop Off Area” for the public to use at their convenience.  This area is designed to offer people the opportunity to come by the facility when it best fits their schedule and drop off their recyclables.  Happily, most of the items left in this area are the recyclables that we accept here at the Center.  It is quite apparent however that some people seem to be confused about just what is supposed to be left in this area.

There is also the possibility that some people are trying to save a trip to the landfill at our (and your) expense.  Everything left at the Recycling Center has to be dealt with one way or the other – by recycling or landfilling.  The items that are not recyclable we have to send to the landfill and we are charged hauling and landfill tipping fees just like everyone else.  These charges increase the Recycling Center’s expenses and make it more difficult for us to break even at the end of the year.  In addition to the expense, it takes our personnel time and energy to handle  these non-recyclables cutting into the limited time we have to process the thousands of tons of good recyclables that are brought to the Center each year.

I am listing here the ONLY materials that are acceptable in this “After Hours Drop Off Area” and hopefully this will help stop some of the non recyclable items being left in error.
