Holiday Recycling in Rome and Floyd County
Did you know
that we throw away 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, than
any other time of the year, and at least 40% of those pounds could be recycled
instead?
The largest
component of this extra trash is packaging and the good news here is that our
citizens are offered numerous opportunities to recycle all that packaging. Here are some schedules to help you recycle
the most you can this holiday season:
- The
Recycling Center will accept your packaging all day every day, along
with your wrapping paper, Styrofoam and all the other recyclables. Our hours are 8 – 3:30 Mon – Fri and 8
– 2 Sat along with our 24/7 after hours drop off area. We will be closed Monday, December 25th and Tuesday, December 26th. We will be closed again on Monday,
January 1, 2007 for New Years. Please
note that the Recycling Center does not take Christmas trees of any kind
at any time. For more
information call us at 706-291-5266.
Visit our web site for lots of other holiday waste reduction tips.
- Curbside
will pick up boxes for recycling the week of Christmas and the first week
in January on your regular garbage/recycling day. You may also put your “real” Christmas
trees out at the curb for pickup.
For more information call 706-236-4580.
- Floyd
County Remote Sites – will take your boxes anytime they are open along
with the other normal recyclables and “real” Christmas trees for the 2
weeks after Christmas. For more
information call 706-236-2495, or visit our web site for hours and
locations.
- “Bring
One for the Chipper” Christmas tree recycling program sponsored by
Keep Rome/Floyd Beautiful will be held Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the
Home Depot parking lot from 9 – 4.
They will be giving out tree
seedlings while supplies last.
For more information call 706-236-4456.
SPECIAL NOTE – if you are having a gathering and will
be using aluminum cans and/or plastic bottles, why not recycle them this
year? The Recycling Center has easy to
use collection containers you can borrow for your event at no charge. Or you can just set up any type container
(trash cans will do) with labels on them for the aluminum and plastic. This is a great way to promote responsible
disposal options, help save natural resources, save landfill space, keep from
throwing valuable commodities away and even raise a little money for your
favorite charitable organization. Call
us for more information.
DON’T FORGET TO SAVE THOSE OLD ELECTRONICS FOR OUR
COLLECTION DAY IN JANUARY. DATE TO BE
ANNOUNCED SOON.
