AMERICA RECYCLES DAY - 2006
It is November and time again for the annual America Recycles Day. This is a national all-volunteer, non-profit
501(c)(3) organization that has a goal of promoting campaigns to encourage
Americans to recycle more and to buy more recycled products. Since its
inception in 1997, the ARD campaign has grown substantially. Last year,
residents in every state of the nation participated in America Recycles Day
activities and events and pledged to recycle.
The main MISSION of the America Recycles Day organization is to
hold local and national awareness
events to promote the social, environmental, and economic benefits of buying
recycled and recycling. The ultimate GOAL
is to increase the purchase of recycled content products and recycling
throughout America.
This year’s slogan – “IT ALL COMES BACK TO YOU” suggests that
even a small shift in your attitudes and actions, multiplied many times over by
others accepting this challenge, can help change the world. Maybe you'll throw those soft drink cans in
the recycling bin at work, or participate in your neighborhood City of Rome
Curbside Recycling Program. Or maybe
drop off recyclables at the Rome/Floyd Recycling Center and help support a
charitable/non profit organization with the proceeds. Or maybe take the time to separate your recyclables out of your
trash at one of the Floyd County remote garbage/recycling sites. Or maybe buy more recycled content
products. Just remember that the more
you do, the better. And even a little
helps a lot.
Please consider taking the pledge this year. No, you don't have to pledge money or make a purchase. In fact, there's no obligation
whatsoever. All we ask is that you make
a commitment to yourself to step up your recycling efforts over the next year
in some way, large or small. Call it a
personal challenge. We trust you'll
hold yourself to it. When you make this
pledge on line at americarecyclesday.org., you will automatically be entered into a
drawing for lots of neat prizes. (Deadline
for on line pledge is November 15, 2006;
however, you may come to the
Recycling Center until November 27, 2006 to request a paper pledge). The National Grand Prize for adults is an all-expenses-paid 7-night Alaskan cruise for
two people. There are 5 Youth Prizes -
recycled aluminum content Trek Model 4300 24-speed bicycles. There will also be
several State prizes sponsored by the Georgia
Recycles Coalition – our State recycling organization. Your name and address will be kept
confidential and you will not be contacted unless you are a winner. Drawing to be held on or about December 15,
2006. One entry per person.
