COMPUTER / ELECTRONICS LINKS

2 to 3 times a year the Recycling Center sponsors an electronic collection event for computers, televisions and other electronics - watch for announcements for those events.

Next event:  2nd or 3rd week in JANUARY 2008

Current estimates are that 300 million computers monitors and televisions become obsolete each year and end up being either recycled, landfilled, dumped on the side of the road or stored.  These items contain toxic and hazardous materials as well as precious metals, such as gold, silver and platinum and represent excellent opportunities for positive environmental impact if disposed of properly.  Recycling, and/or reusing, instead of other disposal methods, helps save natural resources, reduce energy consumption in manufacturing of new products and has less negative environmental impact than mining for the metals used.

It is for these reasons that we encourage our citizens to hold their computers for our special collection events rather than throwing them into the landfill.

We have worked with several companies in the past to provide our electronics recycling events and these companies do offer their recycling services to business, industry and institutional facilities - including pick up.  these companies are:

The links below will give you access to some of the recycling programs already in place nationally by electronics manufacturers.  We continue to work locally to provide as many recycling/reuse opportunities as possible.
