HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTES  -  Do you really know what they are?

A product is considered hazardous when - it poses a threat to your health or the environment.

There are signal words to look for to help you quickly determine if the product you are using is hazardous. These words include:

DANGER    POISON    WARNING    CAUTION    IRRITANT    CAUSTIC    FLAMMABLE    COMBUSTIBLE    RADIOACTIVE    EXPLOSIVE

Many of the products we commonly use around the house, garage and garden are hazardous. Products like - drain cleaners, paints and varnishes, pool chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides - to name just a few.  For more comprehensive information on Household Hazardous Wastes see the websites listed below!.

Manufacturers are required by law to list the hazardous ingredients on the product labels along with safe use instructions and proper disposal methods.  It is important to always read the labels and follow the precautions for safe use and disposal.

Excellent site for MSDA information on lots of common household hazardous wastes.  An MSDS is the "Material Safety Data Sheet" that lists all atributes of a product including warnings and treatments for accidents.
